Percy Court Studios (Adelaide)
Pop surrealist painter Jade Mars is pleased to announce Raised Poor, an exhibition of work by 13 of Adelaide's influential and emerging artists of various types and genres. The exhibition will be open for view at Percy Court Studio The opening night, beginning on the 8th of September at 5:30 PM, will feature various guest speakers and the night will close with a musical act from hip hop duo Mnops and Kimence.
Raised Poor is an exhibition showcasing the raw untouched talent that has arisen from the economic struggle, the "bad kids" and "ratbags" that don't let their environment get in the way of pursuing their passion. The artists share their own views and insights into the struggles and successes faced by the raise poor; disenfranchised people who get lost in a system in which the creative arts are deemed a privilege they cannot afford and are forced to give their creative outlet up in favor of a marginally stable and incomplete life. This exhibition is a movement that humanizes the figures behind the economic label in an effort to challenge the established axioms surrounding a subculture of Australians fighting for a foothold in the world and call for awareness and support to the initiatives actively helping Adelaide's aspiring young artists
